Friday Sermon 29 August 1997
I have returned from a busy tour of Germany to the successful Programs of Urdu Class for students in Holland which had a very positive effect upon everybody. May the valleys here always echo with 'No God but Allah' which was a meaningful announcement rising from the depths of the heart. Now a responsibility falls upon the Holland Jamat to shape this announcement into the form of action. These songs need to blend into the blood circulations of the people of Holland. If morality lacks in Tawhid [Divine unity], if hearts are disunited and word and deed do not have the colour of Tawhid then inviting to Tawhid would be a sort of futile hobby. Now is the time to channel this theme in your selves. Some of the writings and Discourses of His Holiness the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) speak of the reality of repentance and the subject of returning to God in a way that they are an essential if one is to bring about a change for the pure in oneself. For example a great way to remove sin and to be free from sin is fear of the Divine. This fear is instilled by the Prophets. The reason for audacity in sinning is that the hearts have no terror of God. Any harm implemented by dangerous animals or horrible things is carried out with the command of God through His laws. So in fact there is no fear of these things but fear of their Maker. The spiritual law works in the same way. A sin shows its ill effects as soon as it is carried out and the subject of forgiveness follows thereafter. When we say that forgiveness is vast it certainly does not mean that the laws of nature would be annulled. All of God's laws whether they be physical or spiritual are always implemented. However that oft-Forgiving and Gracious One also provides the remedy to remove the ill effects of these laws. Sometimes when one derives no cure from the laws of nature then another method of prayer proves effective. Observe the spiritual life according to the laws of nature. The sting of the laws of nature are known spontaneously but the sting of sins is not generally felt spontaneously. Prayer has a deeply-rooted bond with pure Tawhid. You cannot gain any knowledge of Tawhid without prayer. So when you pray perplexed then your possess a method of freedom from sin and release from their ill effects to hand. But it is important to be perplexed for this. So pray in conjunction with action in order to be free from sins. Moreover abandon all such gatherings and sessions which incite to sinfulness. Numerous methods of being free from sins are mentioned in the writings of His Holiness the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) and you should ponder over them, understand them and through their wisdom get to know the fear of God. If you act upon them then no un-Islamic culture can overpower you. Today there is need for Ahmadis who can change the course of time and who produce life out of death.
