Friday Sermon 1 August 1997
Say 'Verily I am commanded to worship Allah being sincere to Him in faith.' 'And I am commanded to be the foremost in submission.' Say 'Indeed I fear if I disobey my Lord the punishment of an enormous day.' Say 'It is Allah I worship being sincere to Him in my faith.' 'So serve what you like beside Him.' Say 'Surely the losers will be those who ruin their souls and of their people on the Day of Resurrection.' Beware! That will surely be the manifest loss. ('The Holy Quran'. al-Zumar [The Throngs]: 11 - 16). To devote one's faith to God is Islam in order to be a Muslim it is important to ponder upon these verses with this [intention] in mind. In the eyes of God anyone who devotes their faith to God is a Muslim and the more they refine it the more their status would increase in the eyes of God. With regards to the various meanings of 'faith' the nature granted to mankind is also called faith by Almighty God. Faith can also be held to mean the laws of religion and the laws of the world. There is no coercion in the law which God has granted to humankind in the form of Shariah. Worship is not just the [formal] offering of Salat but that one shapes their whole life in accord with the directives of the Salat. Worship is to direct one's pray in the right direction for [the duration of] one's entire life. All the works of the Holy Prophet ﷺ, all his affiliations were exclusively for [the sake of] Allah. When we speak of numbers it is from the perspective that we have prepared a number of people who bow down before God. If there is pride it is only in this. Our interests lie in having faith in Allah. If someone entering Ahmadiyya has not been purified it distresses dozens and thousands of our hearts. مُخْلِصًا لَّهُ الدِّينَ ['sincere to Him in faith'] means that to accept the word of anyone against that of God's is to invite the punishment of God. The school of thought that God has placed the Ahmadiyya Community upon is the school of Allah's thought. It is repeatedly brought to your attention to place your family upon the same line of thinking. Pray to be the Imam of the pious and strive to be the Imam of the pious. If in the matter of your children you do not devote your faith to Allah you can never be sincere in praying 'and make each of us a model for the righteous.' Worry about your future generations and attend to their upbringing. Right now I am specifically addressing the newcomers. I have also given general instructions with regard to this to the missionaries, along with some other instructions separately and I would go on doing it throughout the whole year so that we can give our spiritual children a moral upbringing. Our pride would only be justified when it is not merely a statement of 'I am the son of the Sultan' but when the children have the deportment of a Sultan. From this perspective it is important to pay special regard to your spiritual progeny. I assure you that the bounties of Allah descending upon us are in accord with our capacity. So increase that part of your capacities which we are not yet utilising. Everyone among you can increase their capacities having adopted the subject of worship as I have explained. So if you ask God for future triumphs then learn to justify what you have already been granted. Prayer is a necessity for this. The word used here is Qibla, literally 'direction' but a term used in Islam to mean: in the direction of the Kaaba at Mecca. And who say 'Our Lord! Grant us of our spouses and children the delight of the eyes and make each of us a model for the righteous'. ('The Holy Quran'. al-Furqan [The Criterion]: 75). Persian saying. Literally 'smell like a Sultan'. The text http://www.alislam.org/urdu/sermon/FST19970801-UR.pdf © The Tahir Archive / MTA International, 2016.
