Friday Sermon 20 September 1996
Say 'O My servants who have committed excesses against their own selves! Despair not of the mercy of Allah, surely Allah forgives all sins. Verily He is Most Forgiving and Merciful.’ 'And turn ye to your Lord and submit to Him before there comes unto you the punishment when none shall come to help you. ('The Holy Quran'. al-Zumar [The Throngs]: 54, 55). These verses which speak of the boundless forgiveness of Almighty God also carry a warning that you should bow down before God in repentance and offer yourselves to Him. 'The Holy Quran' records the incidents of sinners being freed from sin and the stories of different Prophets (peace be on them all) especially the prayer of Prophet Joseph (peace be upon him) to be freed from sin and its magnificent results and blessings and fruits. To avoid sin specify the areas of refuge and then pray to God saying 'O Allah, I seek your refuge from this weakness and from that sin.' If you pray by specifying the area of refuge you will never be grabbed suddenly because you would be freeing [yourselves] from sin to some extent. Even if you are unable to receive complete manumission at once but are trying with complete certitude then Allah the Almighty never cuts off such a person who is actually progressing towards Him. Moreover the manner in which the Holy Prophet ﷺ explains this subject is that even if one cannot be totally free from evil deeds but is working towards it then the mercy of Allah the Almighty would overtake. I especially draw the attention of the Community in this age of speedy worldwide progress and the responsibilities we bear in caring for the people arriving in large troops. The teaching mentioned by the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) in 'Kashti Nuh' is the forte and whoever enters into it is protected from all sorts of harm. People say that in this age it is impossible for one to trade without being dishonest. To desist from certain financial profits because they displease God is a difficult thing to do but if one's conscience is clean then one can live a pure life in every situation. Allah the Almighty blesses the trade carried out in true sincerity. Then blessings do certainly descend from on high. The wealth, the progeny, the bond and the loyalty of such people with faith is always blessed. Sincerity carries with it many blessings which cannot always be seen. If you do not begin this journey of sincerity towards God then your entire country would become dishonest. Every Ahmadi Muslim should be diligent against dishonesty. If a person strives to be honest in their personal affairs and in the common affairs of trade then it is impossible for them in their nature to try to concoct excuses to con their brother. The wealth of a Community set upon honesty and God-consciousness is always blessed. May Allah the Almighty enable us to be that [Community].
