Friday Sermon 18 July 1997
And give thou to the kinsfolk their due and to the poor and the wayfarer and squander not extravagantly. Verily the extravagant are brothers of Satan, and Satan is ungrateful to his Lord. ('The Holy Quran'. Bani Israel [Children of Israel]: 27, 28). With reference of the approaching Jalsa Salana I welcome the guests upon their arrival and offer important advice. Those who come do so only in God. They come for the sake of Allah or one should say that they ought to come for the sake of Allah. However it has been seen that sometimes certain people come bringing other intentions. One of those intentions is to seek asylum here or in other countries by way of this. It is their right to seek asylum but it is wrong to use the Jalsa as an excuse. Due to such actions of a small number of people the Community and members of the Community who wanted to come here only to participate in the Jalsa have faced great difficulties and troubles. God forbid even if there is a single person who abuses the Jalsa and adopts worldliness and seeks asylum here or in other countries they will be permanently removed from the Jamat and their request for forgiveness would not be given any attention. I advise the hosts that guests possess a delicate heart. Although the customary hosting is for 3 days but the Jamat has accepted responsibility for 15 days because people come from far away. However those who are staying somewhere on an individual basis should care to go elsewhere after a few days. وَآتِ ذَا الْقُرْبَىٰ حَقَّهُ ['And give thou to the kinsfolk their due']: It is important to have regard for ability in playing host. One's ability can be stretched out but it cannot be exceeded. The incidents of playing host during the time of the Noble Prophet ﷺ were casual and informal. Many people come to the Jalsa with a sensitive nature and are offended at small minor things. The host has no right to take offense at this. High moral values cannot be sacrificed for administrative duties. If there are administrative difficulties the high moral values should increase rather than decreasing. However do remember that the responsibility of security cannot be jeopardised. It is the duty of the Jamat administration to arrange for security and keep those under their watch about whom it is thought that they have come to create disorder. A Free Mobile Force is necessary for security or protection. Secondly that the foreigners should be included in it as much as possible. In organising a security system you must make it a reflection of the global organisation. Each Member of the Jamat is a part of the Security. This system is not operating anywhere other than in the Ahmadiyya Community. Understand this system so that it becomes a part of your life but to be personally alert for security with higher moral values is a distinction that behoves a believer. Some people become rash and discourteous due to the Security and this is not correct behaviour. I also advise the ladies coming to the Jalsa and the guests coming with them who are not members of the Jamat that they should not even invite those who openly display their bodies or wear such clothes because people who come do not know whether they are Ahmadis or not Ahmadis and we cannot forcefully make them cover their heads. It is criminal to stumble in such a situation and it is also criminal to cause [someone] to stumble. It is your duty to safeguard your self. It is exclusive to the Jalsa that all its attendees blend into one central character. The soul of every person is the same and the flagship of Tawhid [Divine unity] is for that soul to become universal and to actually become united under the Tawhid. As a Jamat you would become the flagship of Tawhid when you unite the souls of God in the world. When you meet with each other you should never forget this leading position that we are all one. Give precedence to worship. Every Jalsa is held for the purpose so that the people of God may belong to God. When you emphasise prayer you make a connection with Allah and then you neither stumble nor cause [others] to stumble. Such people are protected from all kinds of blunders.
