Friday Sermon 15 August 1997
Today with the Grace of God the twenty-second Jalsa Salana [Annual Conference] of the Community in Germany is being held as in the past the Friday Sermon also the Inaugural Address, in today's Friday Sermon I wish to present some counsel before the community in the words of the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him). I shall explain these excerpts in simple words with examples. In it the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) states that: It should be remembered that this announcement is printed with the sole intention that my Community by seeing the heavenly Signs of God may increase in their faith and acts of virtue and so that they acknowledge that they have affiliated themselves with a truthful person and not with a liar. Moreover that they may march ahead in all works of righteousness and that their pure example may shine forth into the world. ('Majmuah Ishtiharat: iii', 5 November 1899. 179). In this announcement The Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) has especially drawn the attention of the Community to the adopting of patience, God-consciousness, forbearance and clemency. Then he has drawn their attention towards adopting 4 types of perfection with reference to the Sura' Fatiha [The Opening]. The counsels which have been made in this announcement are the very spirit of Islam. If you act upon these fully then the victory and triumph is all yours. The Prophets of the past were slandered in their time far more than the allegations levelled at the Promised Messiah by the enemies. You can challenge the enemies of Ahmadiyya that they should first establish if the allegations they make against the Promised Messiah were not made upon the Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ before this. If it has then they have no right to repeat that allegation against his servant, and if it has then are you able to rebut it? If not then we are ready to answer all those allegations which are levelled at the person of our master's master the Holy Prophet Muhammad if you have no power to do so yourselves. There is not a single levelled at the Holy Prophet by the enemies that has not been repeated by these fanatics against the Promised Messiah. The glory of the Mahdi [Divine Guide] cannot be greater than his master. It is impossible for the Holy Prophet ﷺ to have been targeted with baseless allegations and for his perfect servant the Imam Mahdi to have been safe from them. This does not at all mean that the Prophet of Allah ought to be put in front as a defence for the allegations against the Promised Messiah because in fact it is the other way round and the Promised Messiah will come forward to defence the Prophet of Allah and we will come forward to defend the Promised Messiah. Patience always blends into prayer. The greater the forbearance is the more one will concentrate upon prayer and patience and prayer and deeply connected. Prayer is something which rises from the heart and springs out from the womb of patience. In this announcement the Promised Messiah also begs God for a Sign of extraordinary grandeur with reference to the verse of Sura' Fatiha which says 'Guide us on the right path'* and explains that we beg of 5 types of perfection in it, that is the perfection of Prophethood among the blessed, the perfection of the truthful, the perfection of the martyrs and the perfection of the virtuous. The Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) has elaborated upon these 4 aspects of perfection in his writings: these are the Signs which His Holiness is begging for his Community that they may attain to the perfection of the truthful, the martyrs and the virtuous in their persons and that this may serve as a Sign. Our problems will be resolved through the Unity of the Divine. The world will not acknowledge your dominion in numbers if you leave aside this Unity. The only Unity is the Unity of the Divine Attributes. Adopt the dominion of the Divine attributes and when you work in its cause only then will you these 4 attributes emerge. Every Ahmadi among you should try to be truthful. Thereafter is the perfection of the martyrs who show phenomenal resilience of faith and moral fortitude and steadfastness in times of difficulties and in trials and tribulations. Similarly there is the perfection of virtue which entails that one is pure from all kinds of dispute. May Allah Almighty bless our endeavours so that we may create a change for the better. * 'The Holy Quran'. al-Fatiha [The Opening]: 6.
