Friday Sermon 5 July 1996
Say 'If you love Allah follow me and Allah will love you and forgive you your faults. And Allah is Most forgiving, Merciful.' ('The Holy Quran'. Āl Imran [Family of Imran]: 32). Before returning to the subject of this verse I announce the beginning of the new financial year but the financial details and comparisons between the contributions of various countries will not be presented today instead they will be mentioned in the address to be delivered on the occasion of the Jalsa Salana. In brief the Jamat [Community] of Rabwah has been able to present the largest Budget among the Pakistani Jamats with Lahore coming second in Number and Karachi coming third in Number. Then from the international Jamats the Jamat of America is with the grace of God also among the Jamats that are speeding ahead rapidly. Both the Jalsas of America and Canada have been successful and I commend the efforts the devotion and the spirit of obedience of all the workers. I mention Canada especially because they have relations with others that bear a positive influence throughout the year and when they attend the Jalsa these people rapidly change for the better. I especially advise America to make such Programs with earnest devotion so that your relations with Americans would increase. So they would begin to welcome your influence: it is a difficult task to influence the whole of mankind until you first influence America. [This is] because many a great nation of the world take pride in copying America and have been following America until now in everything evil. The attendance exceeding 7000 in the American Jalsa Salana is very pleasing and can be considered a milestone for America and may Allah enable them to increase it even further. The need of the time today is to increase through preaching. In this regard new signs of progress have been seen in America this year. Returning to the Quranic verse recited at the beginning it is important for us to understand the love of Allah with reference to the Holy Prophet ﷺ for this would also gives great support and pleasure to this love. Many of the Prophetic Ahadith [Traditions] give different examples of the love the Holy Prophet ﷺ for Allah the Almighty. His heart desired for every heart to be imprisoned in the love of Allah just like his own. The Holy Prophet ﷺ would be delighted at every success achieved by his servants and would never ever be perturbed at any success achieved by his servants so if you love the world in a way that it obstructs your love for God then you are not disregarding of worldly love and disregard of worldly desire is essential to receiving the love of God. However it should also be remembered that loving others with reference to Allah is not unnatural but that it is natural. We cannot receive the love of Allah without adopting the ways of love as taught by the Holy Prophet ﷺ. Some of the verses of the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) also speak of the subject of love. If you want to see the Holy Prophet ﷺ then see him through the eyes of the Promised Messiah and if you want to see God them see him through the eyes of Muhammad the Messenger of Allah. This is indeed the one path that gives birth to Divine love. All else is [just] myths and legends.
