Friday Sermon 4 April 1997
He answered 'My Lord! Since Thou hast adjudged me as lost I will lure them to the things of the Earth and I will lead them all astray.' 'Except Thy chosen servants from among them.' 'He said 'This is a path leading straight to Me.' 'Surely thou shalt have no power over Me servants except such of the erring ones as choose to follow thee.' 'And surely Hell is the rendezvous for them all.' ('The Holy Quran'. al-Hijr [The Rock City]: 40 - 44). This subject has been going on for some time for until one gives up the ghost in a state of being among the servants of the Lord of Mercy no guarantee can be given about the life to come. Satan beckons one from various paths and the way to be safe from the Satanic voices has been taught in لاحول ولا قوة إلا بالله ['There in no power except with Allah']. There is no power to make me god or to grant me something except that possessed by Allah the Almighty. If one understands this and has full faith then this is where the worship of Tawhid [oneness of God] begins from. Hazrat Musleh Maud had a vision in which he passed through a perilous path safely saying 'With the blessing and mercy of God'. I too had seen a similar vision in which the journey was undertaken with the blessing of the prayer 'My Lord! All things serve thee'. This journey is accomplished safely through one prayer or another. The Prophets of God are well aware of the subtleties of the paths. The Chosen prophet Muhammad ﷺ would also speak of those paths he had not seen with such clarity that one is amazed. He would explain in detail how sin is born. A Prophet has far greater experience than a common sinner because a Prophet encounters the very subtle paths of trials and passes through them successfully. These are known as the subtle paths of Taqwa [awareness of God]. The basic meanings of Taqwa are to be safe. A Prophet or a Godly person passes safely through the fine paths and after he has done so he realises what the perils were! It is important to understand the subject of Istaghfar. Repentance becomes possible with Istaghfar and complete cleanliness is to be kept in view in Istaghfar, that is to suppress and demean and denigrate every type of sin so much that it becomes invisible. The leaves behind which Adam hid were the leaves of Istaghfar. Our only Jihad is to draw mankind out of sins and include them in the Godly nobility and to grant them the clothes of holiness that are clothes which never tear. This is a colossal task and we ourselves are sinful and tainted. So we would have to make Itaghfar essential to our life. The meaning of Istaghfar is not to utter prayers for repentance, Istaghfar means to completely erase the sins so that they can't be seen. In actual fact to evade the sins completely demands a great calamity. There are those who strive slowly and gradually and then Allah may bless them with release from sins. There are those pass through this calamity in one go and shunning the luxuries of the world they adopt a new hermetic life. This is the Istaghfar which can sometimes blaze up. The Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) has spoken of the paths of Istaghfar in clear and lucid terms. The question arises why was sin created? I would continue this subject and its various aspects in the next sermon. The text http://www.alislam.org/urdu/sermon/FST19970404-UR.pdf © The Tahir Archive / MTA International, 2015.
