Friday Sermon 19 December 1997
O ye who believe! Seek help with fortitude and Prayer; surely Allah is with the steadfast. And say not of those who are killed in the cause of Allah that they are dead; they are indeed alive only you perceive not. ('The Holy Quran'. al-Baqarah [The Heifer]: 154, 155). The subject of these verses is firstly that they recommend begging from God with patience and through Prayer and the second verse says that those killed in the cause of Allah should not be called dead as they are alive but you do not perceive the reality of the phenomenon of their being alive. There are 2 aspects regarding the subject of patience in relation to Prayer. The first is to ask Allah for help with fortitude to continue asking and not to be hasty about it. Secondly to ask help through Prayer and through such Prayer this is made patiently being constant in piety. One is instructed to be patient in Prayer as well because it is not actually said that Allah is with those who Pray that Allah is with the patient. The mentioning of patience here reveals that there is something irksome being spoken of. Showing impatience in grief can do one no good. If grief results in patience and offering of prayers which should be especially offered formally then one would receive the company of Allah. These verses reveal that the deaths of those who are martyred in the cause of God are not commonplace and that there is a difference in these and in common death. We cannot comprehend this difference. It could be that a martyr would attain the life in Paradise upon their death. Another aspect of the statement about martyrs that they are alive but you cannot understand it is that the nation lives because of them. These martyrdoms always ensure the life of the nation. As long as there are those who offer their lives for the sake of God it is impossible for a nation to die. Moreover the life of martyrs is connected to God in a state in which they pray for those they leave behind and care for them [in this way]. So their care taking reveals that their new life has a relationship with those they leave behind that is not usually so with the common dead. These are a few judgments and there could be much more to it. Mr Muzaffar Ahmad Sharma has been martyred. These martyrdoms presented through indulgence in works of piety in spite of the Challenge of the enemy are very precious martyrdoms. The martyred Muzaffar never had the slightest doubt that he could be martyred but he had no fear in his heart. This family also offered grand sacrifices in 1985. Theirs was the only home in Shikarpur. This family steadfastly bore every torment. Death threats were printed in the newspapers against them which also included the names of the Maulvis but the government never took any action. I advise that prayers be continued for those left behind by the martyr and most of all wail and weep before Allah so that he may lead the perpetrators of evil to the consequences of their actions. I am receiving numerous messages of condolence from across the world upon the demise of Hazrat Sahibzada Mirza Mansoor Ahmad and they all pass before my eyes and the heart prays for every one of them but due to the abundance of the mail it is impossible to reply to them all so if you never as much as receive even a letter of acknowledgement please do not entertain the thought that maybe your letter has passed me by. Incidentally nobody had such a long life among the children or the children of the children of the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) as was granted to Hazrat Sahibzada Mirza Mansoor Ahmad. May Allah the Almighty grant him Paradise at each and every turn. The text © The Tahir Archive / MTA International, 2013.
