Address to Ladies, Jalsa Salana 26 July 1997

Description

The subject of this address to the ladies has a somewhat different tone from the usual one.  Previously I used to advise you but today I praise you.  You have done well.  So today I most gratefully applaud the Lajna Imaillah [auxiliary organisation for Ahmadi ladies] the Ahmadi Muslim ladies young and old.  

Before I mention the services rendered by the ladies I wish to present a grand and heart warming incident from history which concerns a devoted lady.  This lady of the time of the Holy Prophet ﷺ laid the foundation of a new pathway for the ladies of the future.  She was known as Umm Ammara.*   She was giving water to the wounded from her flask during the Battle of Uhad, when she noticed that suddenly there was a great uproar and some of the most valorous youth were running away from the Holy Prophet ﷺ.  This lady threw down her flasks and came forward to defend the Holy Prophet ﷺ sword in hand.  In this regard she is the first lady to have fought with the sword.  Albeit there is also a lady by the name of Khaula but she came later and followed her example.  Umm Ammara is the first lady in the history of Islam who raised the sword during the Battle of Uhad and pounced upon the enemy.  Then she did not leave the Prophet of Allah ﷺ.  This is that lady - About whom the Holy Prophet himself bore witness that 'In Uhad wherever I turned, to the left or the right, I saw her fighting for me'.  This is the statement of the Holy Prophet ﷺ that when all the great warriors and brave men had fled I saw this lady to my right, and to my left.  The Holy Prophet ﷺ says that he saw her fighting from every direction and this is the greatest possible tribute paid to her by the Holy Prophet ﷺ.  

I wish to pay a tribute to you.  Now my state is that I see Ahmadi ladies fighting to my left, and fighting to my right.  I see them fighting before and behind.  Now the Ahmadi ladies are no longer as they used to be.  Ahmadi ladies have woken up and have gone out yielding the swords for Jihad so that they have an influence upon the age.  Many a grand and reputable cleric are afraid of Ahmadi women and tremble before them.  With the Bounty of Allah the Ahmadi ladies have assisted me in every field.  

This is the era which Ahmadi women have entered in such glory that it casts a shadow upon their previous history.  Now with the Grace of God many thousands of Umm Ammaras have been born who have revived the exceptional glory of Hazrat Umm Ammara in their persons.

The previous eras were a different story, there used to be sessions, now we are in a world of action and planning.  I will mention some names by way of example of how Ahmadi women are participating in this field.  Mrs. Aisha of Norway deserves special mention as she is exemplary in leading an Islamic way of life.  This has resulted in more of the ladies over there being under her influence.  Then after Norway there are the Ahmadi ladies of Sweden and of Pakistan to whose devotion and sacrifice I pay tribute.  If there is an answer to the corrupted society of this age then it lies in Ahmadi women.  So O Ahmadi ladies of the world, Arise! Give birth to many many Umm Ammaras.  Until the entire world if full of Umm Ammaras.  May Ahmadi ladies be yielding the sword in every place and overtaking the world in defense of Islam.  If this revolution takes place in Africa then you will see that tomorrow's world would be an altogether different world.
