Tarjumatul Quran - Surah al-Ahzab [The Confederates]: 12 - 35

Description

It should be remembered as is obvious from the name of this Surah the group around Medina had all converged and planned a programmed attack to finish Islam.  This was something which tested the faithful as well but they remained steadfast.  When the hypocrites and those of weak faith saw the onslaught of such a large force they began to say things full of doubt and suspicions that Allah and His Messenger had just made false promises with us and they began seeking permission to be excused from the battlefield.  In these verses Almighty God sheds ample light on the inner state of such people that they never want the good of the Muslims and their hearts desired that the confederates should attack and harm them but that we should ourselves sit afar with the Bedouins and ask them concerning the troubles of warfare.  But Almighty God ruined all their faith and deeds.  As opposed to this the faithful saw the confederates and found the promises of God and His Messenger to have been true and their faith became even more stronger.  The Muslims had to fight very little in the Battle of the Ahzab.  Almighty God so overawed the enemies that they fled.  As a result the Muslims came to possess much of the enemy territory and their inheritances and properties as booty and they also received the Prophecy of another victory at Khyber.

Upto verse Number 27 and after the incidents faced in the war, the schemes of the hypocrites and the grand victory of the Muslims suddenly Almighty God tells the Holy Prophet to address the holy wives and this address carries on to to the end of the periscope.  All the holy wives spent a life of simplicity and poverty but they could have hoped that because of the large booty received in this war they would now live a life of ease.  But the command of Almighty God was that they would have to continue to live simply and in purity so these blessed ladies happily agreed to remain with the Holy Prophet.  The Shias unleashed their tongues and continued calumniating against these sacred women who had prioritised God and the Messenger over everything of the world.
