Friday Sermon
Khutba Juma
Description
O ye who believe! Eat of the wholesome things We have provided for you and give thanks to Allah if it is Him you worship. ('The Holy Quran'. al-Baqarah: 173). Here the believers are commanded to eat from the wholesome things provided by Allah and be grateful only to Allah if it is Him you worship. There are 2 meanings of eating from the wholesome things provided by Allah. The first is to eat the best out of whatever Allah provides that is fresh, of the best quality and healthy. The second is that Allah always provides the believers with what is pure meaning that it is not tainted by anything ungodly. Moreover it simultaneously includes an allusion to the purity of a believer's earnings. If the best provisions of the world is acquired through impure means it is all in effect filthy and depleted of all its blessing. Among the detailed and deeper meanings of تَبَتَّلْ ['total devotion'] is to sever the worldly ties as well as to keep in contact with the world simultaneously. تَبَتَّلْ for God does not at all mean to be oblivious of the natural processes launched by God. To be careless of the natural processes launched by God is arrogance. The wrong impression the following writing of the Promised Messiah (peace be on him) can have upon one can be refuted by some other writings of His Holiness (peace be upon him): The Holy Prophet ﷺ was so blended and lost in God that no part of his individuality, his creation or its purpose remained behind in his person. That too is the pinnacle of a human individual to be occupied in the work of the world and still not to forget God. (Ahmad, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam. 'Ismat e Anbiya'. 'Review of Religions', July 1902. 'Ruhani Khazain: xviii'). It is wrong to be light in remembering God in the sense that one takes off the responsibilities of the world God has placed upon one. His Holiness has said that the faith should take precedence over the world alongside the worldly duties and responsibilities and a person should keep their God their perspective. [1] There is the expression ''Fear Allah and do everything.' [2] It is not to fear Allah if the commandments of God are being openly violated. In fact it means regarding His commandments and prohibitions and doing whatever one wants within their remit: It was narrated that Suhaib said: The Messenger of Allah said 'How wonderful is the case of the believer, for all his affairs are good. If something good happens to him, he is grateful for it and that is good for him; if something bad happens to him, he bears it with patience, and that is good for him. This does not apply to anyone but the believer.' (Muslim, Ibn al-Hajjaj. Sahih Muslim: vii'. Tr. Nasiruddin al-Khattab. 7 vols, Darussalam, 2007. 397). It is impossible that the patience mentioned by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ be achieved without prayer. One can never be patient without having asked God for it. 'So seek help through patience and prayer.' [3] So keep these trials in mind and prepare for these trials. Before one is afflicted with certain trials whether they be personal or to do with the Jamat it is one's duty to keep praying that 'O God! Always grant us patience whenever we are tried.' This patience then cannot come without Salat. True patience can be achieved through worship. In worship one comes close to Allah and the closer one gets the more the instability of the world becomes apparent. The efforts made by the government of Pakistan to change the name of Rabwah reveals that their hearts are ablaze. The efforts to change the name reveals that their burning is not getting any less. The Ahmadiyya Community is not a Jamat that would ever be wiped out. You are the ones who would certainly be trampled upon and your hopes would always be trampled under the feet and Allah the Almighty would take the Jamat from success to success one after another.
