Description
And Allah calls to the abode of peace and guides whom He pleases to the straight path. For those who do good there shall be the best reward and even more. And neither gloom nor ignominy shall cover their faces. These are the inmates of Heaven; therein shall they abide. ('The Holy Quran'. Yunus [Jonah]: 26, 27). In Islamic terminology the effort which brings one nearer to God is Jihad and every action which shoves one away from God is its opposite. The purpose of calling to Allah is not [to wage] war or [cause] a disturbance but the establishment of peace. Not only is this the theme of these sacred verses but they bring the subject to perfection. The only summoner to Allah is one who calls with one accord to the voice of God that is to say calls towards whatever God calls towards. وَاللَّهُ يَدْعُو إِلَىٰ دَارِ السَّلَامِ ['And Allah calls to the abode of peace'] if the whole world really calls to God the world would become an abode of peace, an abode of security. However how could one call towards peace when one is not themselves at peace? Peace is an attribute of Allah so if you call towards God then this verse reveals that you are calling to an abode of peace. So you can never call to an abode of peace if there is no peace within you. Here يَهْدِي مَن يَشَاءُ ['guides whom He pleases'] does not mean that Allah decrees by force. In fact it means that when absorption is born within one for Allah then that person always inclines towards [correct] guidance. This contains very grand messages for one who calls to God in that one should keep in view the beauty of those who are called, to keep their best abilities in view and to utilise them. Oceans of wisdom are surging in these verses for those who incite to Allah. You need to first find the good clean and tidy people of God. There are such pure-natured ones who would come of their own accord without your summoning and the God's destiny is instrumental in guiding them through revelations, dreams and visions. These verses also give the message to create beauty in those those who possess less beauty because the purpose of inviting to Allah is not to include the filthy just to increase the number in name. Virtue is prosperous and strengthened by inviting to Allah. So the first task in relation to inviting to Allah is to seek out the good men. The second task is to seek out their talents and to promote them so as to increase their beauty. This task requires wisdom. This is exactly why Almighty God always ties together the subject of wisdom and inviting to Allah. One meaning of لِّلَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا ['For those who do good'] is that He guides those who remove their ills transforming them into beauty. Secondly those who do favour. Those who try to create beauty in others are enabled by God as a grace to perfect their own qualities and the words وَزِيَادَةٌ ۖ [and even more'] connote the journey into God after having reached the stage of perfection which is endless. Whoever tries to create beauty for the sake of God and do favour to people in a beautiful manner are promised the greatest possible of God's favours and then He would grant them the light of His beauty which knows no end. Begin this journey after having adorned [yourselves] with this gnosis of calling to Allah. If a summoner to Allah rises with the intent to spread good in the world for the sake of God then God would never let his face be disgraced. May Allah enable us to progress forward through the comprehension of this subject. The text http://www.alislam.org/urdu/sermon/FST19961115-UR.pdf © The Tahir Archive / MTA International, 2015
