Darsul Quran. al-Nisa [The Women]: 12 (4), 13.
Allah commands you concerning your children: a male shall have a share equivalent to the that of 2 females; but if there be only females more than 2 then they shall have 2/3 of the inheritance; and if there be one she shall have the half. And each of his parents shall have a sixth of the inheritance, if he have a child; but if he have no child and his parents be his heirs then his mother shall have a third; and if he have brothers and sisters then his mother shall have a sixth subject to payment of bequests he made. You know not which of your fathers and your children is nearest to you in beneficence. This is ordained by Allah. Surely, Allah is All- Knowing, Wise. And you shall inherit half of that which your wives leave if they have no child; but if they have a child, then you shall inherit a quarter of that which they leave subsequent to any bequests they may have bequeathed or of debt. And they shall inherit a quarter of that which you leave if you have no child; but if you have a child, then they shall have an eighth of that which you leave subsequent to any bequests you may have bequeathed or of debt. And if there be a man or a woman whose heritage is to be divided and he or she has neither parent nor child but has a step-brother or a step-sister then each one of them shall have a sixth. But if they be more than that then they shall be [equal] share holders in one-third subsequent to any bequests which may have been bequeathed or of debt, without [intent to cause] suffering to anyone. Let this be injunction from Allah, for Allah is All-Knowing, and Benign. There is a Hadith [Traditional saying attributed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ] in 'Sahih al-Bukhari' [by Muhammad ibn Ismail al-Bukhari] concerning the heirs. The word كَلَالَةً ['Whose heritage is to be divided'] needs elaboration as to what كَلَالَةً is. This Discourse was followed by the following questions: i. According to the Sharia [Islamic Legislation] can a person after having divided his heritage, leave something extra for one of their children from whatever remains? ii. What should one do in a situation where the law of the land, clashes with the Islamic law? iii. The destruction of the people of Prophet Lot and their incurring of Divine wrath is mentioned alongside the 2 instances mentioned in 'The Holy Quran' relating the tidings granted to Prophet Abraham. Did the angels descend on 2 separate occasions to inform about the destruction of the people of Lot? 11 February 1996. © The Tahir Archive, 19 September 2012.
